Leading ladies of 9 to 5 ‘very proud’ of timeless ’80s tale
The leading ladies of Dolly Parton’s hit musical 9 to 5 have joined Deborah Knight in the studio ahead of the Australian production’s premiere.
Casey Donovan, Marina Prior and Erin Clare star as Judy Bernly, Violet Newstead and Doralee Rhodes respectively.
Marina told Deborah the film on which the play is based is a timeless story of “empowerment and alliance between women”, and the musical faithfully brings its 80s charm to the stage.
“Even though it’s set in the 80s, it’s dated in that way, but that’s the beauty of it.
“It’s got three female protagonists that are actually driving the story forward – we’re not just there as the wife or the girlfriend or the mum.
“I’m very proud to be part of it; I think we all are.”

A very special dress rehearsal of the musical will benefit Dolly Parton’s charity Imagination Library, a program which gets disadvantaged kids reading.
Chair of partner charity United Way Liz Dibbs told Deborah Knight the rehearsals were “a hot ticket”.
“The proceeds from that will benefit … 500 children to join our Imagination Library program here in Australia.
“We’re really thrilled.”
