Legal expert slams Pauline Hanson for ‘ridiculous’ claims about Family Court
A legal expert has slammed Pauline Hanson for making “rash statements” about the Family Court.
Scott Morrison announced an inquiry into the Family Court after years of pressure from Senator Hanson.
She has even been appointed deputy chair of the inquiry.
Labor will attempt to block the review, accusing the Coalition of doing a deal with the One Nation leader.
Accredited Family Lawyer Specialist at Slater & Gordon Heather McKinnon says Pauline Hanson’s claim the court favours women when it comes to awarding custody of children is “absolutely ridiculous”.
“The stats are very clear. Of the cases that go to hearing it’s about 50/50.
“If you had to sit as a Family Court judge and look at the trauma that we witness every day you wouldn’t make such rash statements.”
She says the money being poured into yet another inquiry should be put to better use.
“We need to use that money to get every Family Court judge out of retirement clearing the backlog.”
