‘Let them earn some money’: Australian swimming legend Dawn Fraser backs new competition
Australian swimming royalty has come out in support of a new competition that would provide a significant increase to swimmers’ pay packets.
Some of the world’s best swimmers have signed up to take part in the International Swimming League (ISL).
The competition is being run independently from the sport’s governing body, FINA.
But FINA has threatened to ban athletes from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics if they take part.
Australian swimming legend Dawn Fraser tells Ben Fordham young swimmers are doing it tough financially and this new competition needs to happen.
“We’ve got to have this ISL.
“FINA’s got to get off their backside and let these swimmers swim and earn some money.”
