The Liberal Party deputy leader has called for the expulsion of senior party powerbroker Christian Ellis.

An Edward River councillor last week told the Hills Shire Council Parliamentary inquiry that Mr Ellis and his faction “took over” the Deniliquin branch in 2021.

Liberal deputy Sussan Ley, whose seat encompasses Deniliquin, told Ray Hadley she takes the allegation seriously and “factional skulduggery” has no place in the party.

Ray Hadley: “Should Christian Ellis finally be expelled from the Liberal Party, based on what we do now know, not just in the Hills Shire Council, but for what happened in your electorate?”

Sussan Ley: “I think so, Ray. I don’t really see an alternative.”
