‘Like a rat on a drainpipe’: Ray’s vow to defend historic golf course
A shire council on the south-western fringe of Sydney has been put on notice over a decades-old golf course.
The future of the Antill Park Country Golf Course is in doubt, with Wollondilly Shire Council refusing to reveal its plans for the land when the current lease expires this year.
“Now, the Antill Park Golf Club has complied with all the tender requirements, unlike others,” Ray said.
“The Council, of course, … they’ve got the discretion to lease Council-owned land for up to 25 years without going to tender.
“When the board raised this to Council, they simply fobbed them off with some lame excuse about ‘getting the best result’.”
Ray vowed to stay on the case to “defend the rights of this small golf club”.
“I say to all you councillors, make sure you do the right thing because I’ll tell you what I’ll be doing: even though it’s a little golf course on the outskirts of Sydney, I’ll examine everything you do,” he continued.
“I’ll be on you like a rat on a drainpipe … and if the ICAC have to investigate you and the practices of the Council, good luck to them.
“And I’ll tell you what I do know about the ICAC: they’re a bit like me, they’re like a dog with a bone. They don’t let up either. So be very careful with what you’re doing.”
