New info has detailed a series of mistakes that worsened the impact of the tragic Lismore flood disaster.

The first in the laundry list of errors was the denial of a $100,000 grant for Lismore City Council to upgrade their flood warning systems.

It was also revealed that the SES knew the destructive weather system could hit in the middle of the night but failed to inform residents.

Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg told Luke Grant “It’s something that Lismore residents have been fighting for for a long time, for better warning systems.

“We were aware of [the weather system] but the warnings weren’t good enough to prepare us for it.”

The town of Lismore continues to heal after the disaster with businesses and residents still struggling to find their feet.

“Smaller businesses are definitely struggling to get back and reopen but it’s the residential situation which is the real crisis,” Mr Krieg Said.
