Local community rallies around brave volunteer firefighters
Hundreds of local volunteers helped battle two fires burning out of control in the state’s central west earlier this year.
Rural Fire Service volunteers worked tirelessly to control the blazes at Mount Canobolas and Belerada Creek.
They dedicated thousands of hours to save property and rescue those in strife, not for accolades but to keep their neighbours safe.
In a show of community spirit, Kennards Hire and Orange City Council organised a ‘Thank You Day’ to recognise the men and women who risked their lives to save others.
Volunteer Erol phoned Ray to acknowledge how much the day meant to him and his colleagues.
“We don’t do the job to be thanked, but it’s greatly appreciated by us volunteers.”
