Ray Hadley has exclusively revealed an inmate has viciously assaulted a prison guard at the nation’s most secure jail.

The 42-year-old convicted terrorist allegedly attacked the officer in an unprovoked coward punch attack at Goulburn’s Supermax Correctional Centre.

A whistleblower tells Ray other inmates are now using the assault to try and negotiate better conditions for themselves, including being allowed to speak Arabic and make more phone calls.

They have allegedly threatened further violence against the guards if their demands are not met.

But rather than shutting down the threats, the whistleblower says management is currently in negotiations with the inmates.

Corrective Services NSW has strenuously denied this claim, insisting “no negotiation with inmates is taking place” (full statement below).

Ray says he hopes it isn’t true or they’ll end up with “the lunatics running the asylum”.

“You simply can’t have that. You can’t have it and I’m sure the minister feels exactly the same way.”

Full statement from Corrective Services NSW:

“An inmate has been placed in segregation after assaulting a correctional officer at the High Risk Management Correctional Centre in Goulburn just after 1.30pm, Wednesday, 20 November.

The 42-year-old inmate struck the officer with his elbow while exiting his cell.

The assaulted officer suffered a mouth injury.

Two other officers sustained minor injuries while restraining the inmate.

No negotiation with inmates is taking place.

Assistant Commissioner for Custodial Corrections Kevin Corcoran said such behaviour on staff would not be tolerated.

“Our officers do not come to work to be treated like punching bags,” Mr Corcoran said.

“We fully support staff to pursue external charges against the inmate.

“I commend our officers for their handling of the situation. They worked together to restrain the inmate and return him to his cell without further incident.”

All officers have been offered support and counselling.

NSW Police charges are pending.”
