Magistrate’s call to ban bible from the courtroom
A senior Victorian magistrate has called for the Bible and the Qu’ran to no longer be used in courtrooms.
Witnesses can take an oath to tell the truth while holding a religious text which reflects their beliefs.
The magistrate says they are “relics” and do not belong in modern courtrooms.
Lawyer Sam Macedone tells Ben Fordham although this is not a legal requirement he believes people should have the option available to them.
“As long as you want to take an oath on the Bible it should be made available to you.
“There’s got to be something available for everyone, it’s an integral part of our legal system.”
