Man charged after alleged attack on 17-year-old pharmacy worker
A man will face court after allegedly assaulting staff at a chemist near Newcastle last week.
Last Friday, a 54-year-old man attended a chemist in Jesmond to get a vaccination.
He was initially refused entry for not wearing a mask.
Once he returned with an appropriate face-covering a 17-year-old staff member began inquiring about his details for the vaccination.
He then allegedly became verbally aggressive towards staff and when asked to leave he picked up a plastic bag of glass bottles and allegedly began swinging them towards staff and customers, before finally leaving.
He was charged with affray and failing to comply with a public health order.
He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
Pharmacy 4 Less CEO Feras Karem told Ben Fordham he was “absolutely shocked”.
“I felt so angry and so upset that someone who is providing this great service … had to face this.”
