UPDATE | 19yo man charged over brutal home invasion murder at Lake Macquarie

A man has now been charged with murder over Monday’s violent home invasion.
Homicide Squad detectives went to a home on Warners Bay Road at Charlestown at about 8.45am, arresting a 19-year-old man.
He has been refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
Police are still searching for the other two men allegedly involved in the attack.
A man has died after being violently attacked during a home invasion north of Sydney.
At about bout 2.30am on Monday, emergency services were called to the home on Lonus Avenue at Whitebridge, in the Lake Macquarie region.
It’s believed three people, with their faces covered and armed with baseball bats and knives, broke into the home and attacked a 60-year-old man in his bedroom.
The man suffered a serious injury to his arm and was rushed to John Hunter Hospital at Newcastle but died a short time later.
The man’s two brothers were home at the time but were not injured.

The Homicide Squad is investigating whether this was a targeted attack and will address the media at 9.45am.
A post-mortem report will determine the exact cause of death.
