Meals on Wheels’ desperate plea for funding
Meals on Wheels’ funding crisis is deepening as the charity pleads with the government for more funding.
Almost 15 million meals are delivered every year across the nation to the elderly and people with a disability but the organisation has been grappling with a lack of funding to keep them afloat.
Meals on Wheels NSW CEO Les MacDonald tells Natalie Peters and Edwina Bartholomew the amount of government funding varies across the state.
“They need to step up because the reality is we would probably be the most cost-efficient service that government deals with because it’s 35,000 volunteers around NSW that do it.
“It has been an issue for at least the last decade and it is gradually getting worse.”
