Medical professionals get behind rebated skin check payments

Drive continues it’s campaign for skin checks to be covered under Medicare.

Australian Medical Association NSW Branch President, Dr Michael Bonning has told Chris O’Keefe there should be a rebated patient payment system.

“We know preventative actions are cost effective, we know they are better for people in the long run,” Dr Bonning said.

“We would much rather deal with something early when its simple, rather that deal with it later – when its trouble.”

Past President of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, Professor David Francis, says the inadequacy of Medicare rebates is the issue.

“If you can get these things early – you may save multiple treatments down the track.” he said.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler once again declined to come on the show.
