Veteran volunteer lifesaver Bruce Robertson has dedicated most of his life to looking out for others.

For an incredible 76 years, Bruce has been patrolling the beaches at Bilgola and Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

At 87-years-young, he’ll reluctantly hang up his red and yellow cap, renouncing his title as the oldest active lifesaver in the country.

Bruce tells Deb the experience has been a “pleasure”.

“I didn’t do it with a sense of wanting to be special.

“I did it because I enjoyed it, it was great.”

During his incredible journey, Bruce even met the Queen.

But, “she wasn’t too happy that day” according to Bruce.
