A NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officer rescued 17 people from a burning boat on the Sydney Harbour.

Hayden Smith told Chris O’Keefe the call over the radio described a catamaran that had a small fire at the time and was drifting towards Sydney Harbour.

He was on shift alone when he attended the scene.

“It was a pretty dangerous situation that was escalating quickly,” Hayden said.
