The iconic Australian kangaroo is under attack from a disease that’s baffling experts.

In the past year, over three million kangaroos on Australia’s western plains have died from an illness which can kill the animal within an hour.

Broken Hill veterinarian Greg Curran tells Chris Kenny they aren’t sure what causes the disease and what can stop it.

“This problem’s increasing in severity. We haven’t been able to determine the cause of it despite a lot of good work.

“At this stage, there’s no indication that it’s infectious. It can’t be plant poisoning, so we’re looking at something else that science hasn’t sorted out yet.”
