The details of the new English syllabus have been released to give teachers time to prepare ahead of its implementation.

The curriculum which covers years 3 to 10 will include an increased focus grammar, punctuation and sentence structure.

The new syllabus for Maths is also being released, featuring increased attention on mathematical sequencing and reasoning.

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell told Luke Grant it’s about building-up foundational skills.

“We expect to see a big improvement in academic results with these changes.

“We know students need to be practicing writing every day, we learn from what the data has been showing us over the years.”
