The Finance Minister says measures to close a loophole regarding compensation for public sector workers, will be applied retrospectively.

A conflict between compulsory third-party insurance and the workers’ compensation scheme, left a police officer who lost his leg at work out-of-pocket by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Victor Dominello tells Alan Jones, legislation to close the loophole has passed cabinet and will be introduced in September:

“It will be retrospective in operation and I’ve already spoken to the insurance regulator here and we’ve had very strong words about this.

“If any insurance company thinks they’re going to do the wrong thing and exploit this loophole well then we will take a very dim view.”
