In what could be the toughest laws of its kind, anywhere in the world, the New South Wales government has made changes to Airbnb rules to protect property owners.

Changes to the strata scheme management act will allow owners and corporations to adopt a bi-law with a 75% majority, which will prevent short term letting in unit blocks.

There will also be a ‘two strikes and you’re’ out policy.

NSW Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean joins Ray Hadley,

“These are up there with the toughest laws not only in the country, but in the world.”

The laws don’t refer to those still living in the property and renting out a single room, they refer only to those renting out whole properties.

“Setting up party houses – that’s not going to be on under our laws.”
