Minister taking action to stop paedophiles hiding assets
There is fresh action to pass legislation that would force paedophiles to open up their superannuation funds to victims.
Under current laws, convicted paedophiles are able to hide their assets in superannuation funds in order to avoid paying damages to their victims.
Minister for Financial Services and Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones told Ray Hadley they want to get it fixed with new legislation.
“We want to ensure the loopholes are closed and these scumbags who have been convicted of paedophilia can no longer hide their assets.”
Senior associate at Webster Lawyers, Andrew Carpenter, told Ray Hadley he’s been fighting for the loophole to be closed for years to no avail.
“This is the first step in the right direction. The next step is for people who have been affected by this can get justice.”
