Minister vows to act on high gas prices

Article image for Minister vows to act on high gas prices

The Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor says he is committed to a domestic gas supply as power prices soar despite Australia’s title as the largest exporter of liquid gas.

The government is expected to make an announcement on a national gas reservation scheme, aimed at setting aside gas for domestic use, in a push to try to drive down prices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has backed calls for a national domestic gas reservation policy but the idea is still being rejected by the industry.

Minister Taylor tells Steve Price it is crucial to focus on domestic supply.

“We know how important affordable energy, affordable gas is.

“We’ve got to make sure there’s enough gas in the market for domestic users… that’s a priority for us.”
