Double demerits: More than a thousand people caught speeding
More than a thousand people have been caught speeding and about 50,000 breath tests have been conducted on the first day of double demerits.
Double demerits started on Thursday, April 18 and will last until Monday, April 22.
They will start up again ahead of Anzac Day, from Wednesday, April 24 and end on Sunday, April 28.
NSW Police Chief Inspector Phil Brooks tells Natalie Peters and Merrick Watts there are more people tested positive for drugs than alcohol.
“One in 13 tests that we do are positive to drugs on our road.
“All available highway patrol officers are out there doing random breath mobile drug testing.”
