Emergency services were called to Claremont Meadows, near the Mamre Road off-ramp, at about 1.20am.
They found a motorbike rider critically injured in the westbound lanes. It’s believed he was pushed into the centre railing following impact.
By-standers and police administered first aid, but he died at the scene.
The body of a dead kangaroo was found nearby.
All westbound lanes were closed for almost five hours but have now reopened with no delays to traffic.
Elsewhere, a motorcyclist has suffered minor injuries after swerving to miss a fox in the Illawarra region.
An oncoming car then hit the bike on the Princes Highway at Gerringong, sparking a fire.
