MP inundated with requests for portraits of Queen after constituents ‘take the piss’
One Labor MP has been inundated with requests for portraits of Queen Elizabeth after an article went viral.
Federal member for Gellibrand Tim Watts has been flooded with more than 60 requests after a VICE Media article revealed all Australian citizens are legally entitled to a free portrait of the Queen.
“I was amused by my constituents response to it,” he tells Ben Fordham.
“It’s the great Australian tradition of taking the piss.”
He says he’s had “some creative suggestions” about where some going to put their portraits of Her Majesty.
“A lot going into the pool room, a lot in the back shed, some on the mantlepiece next to some heirlooms from Aunty Beryl.”
