Nationals MP wants Indonesian flights stopped over foot and mouth
Nationals MP Keith Pitt is calling for more serious action and biosecurity measures as farmers remain on edge about foot and mouth disease.
Farmers are currently calling for increased screening on flights returning from Indonesia.
“Right now the current measures are inadequate,” Ben said.
The National Farmers’ Federation has called for every passenger from high-risk areas to be checked, including questioning and luggage checks.
This comes as Agriculture Minister Murray Watt announced the government will implement sanitising foot mats across airports in the coming days.
Keith Pitt told Ben Fordham it’s time to cancel travel to and from Indonesia and let the matter be taken over by the Prime Minister.
“We need to consider ramping this up to the Prime Minister’s office and letting him take over.”
