New data has revealed how many of us are traveling to work by car and the results are staggering.

According to 2016’s census data, nearly four in five of the nation’s nine million commuters are ditching the bus and the train, choosing the car to get to work instead.

79% of us to be exact.

Director of Census Dissemination Phillip Wise breaks down the data with Ross Greenwood, highlighting how income and gender influence a commuter’s travel time.

“People who had a weekly income at the upper end of the scale… they typically travel the longest average distance to work.

“People who had a low income… had the shortest average distance to work.”
