New Barilaro inquiry evidence throws Jenny West’s story into question

Investment NSW General Counsel Chris Carr is currently being questioned by the upper-house inquiry into the controversial appointment of John Barilaro to a plum US trade job.

Mr Carr has told the inquiry in no uncertain terms that Jenny West, the person from whom the position was rescinded, was never formally offered the job.

He said that by December 2021, he was still not in a position to make a formal offer, at which point she had been terminated from her position in the public service.

2GB senior reporter Clinton Maynard has been following Mr Carr’s testimony today and told Ray Hadley there were “significant discrepancies between his evidence and her evidence”.

Mr Carr also described inaccuracies in Ms West’s testimony about her termination, stating she did, in fact, have both the ability to challenge her termination and an opportunity to re-apply for her role.

Mr Carr’s testimony today only adds to confusion within the story, as he was previously quoted as telling Ms West he was “horrified” when he learned she would not be given the New York role.
