New South Wales Blues win State of Origin
New South Wales has claimed its first State of Origin series victory in four years after beating Queensland 18-14 in a cliffhanger at ANZ Stadium.
The Maroons got off to a fast start, with tries to Dane Gagai and Valentine Holmes in the first 20 minutes opening up a 10-nil lead.
But, playing in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 82,000 fans, the Blues fought back. Winger Josh Addo Carr crossed to narrow the margin to four.
Then controversy struck. Ben Hunt took out Boyd Cordner which saw the Blues handed a penalty try and a 12-10 lead heading into halftime.
That would become 18-10 when Latrell Mitchell barged over nine minutes into the second period.
After Will Chambers crossed to make it 18-14, the Blues were really put under the pump as James Roberts was sin-binned for a professional foul.
Showing guts and courage, the Blues held on to claim its first series victory since 2014 and just its second in 13 years.
