‘No screening checks’: Another flaw exposed in NDIS

Another flaw has been found with the NDIS, as their Worker Screening Check, a national database that shows criminal history, bannings and previous issues, is only optional.

The Screening Check is mandatory for registered disability providers, which make up only 10 per cent of providers, meaning convicted criminals and those who have been banned can still work through the scheme.

NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has pledged a further $733 million to crack down on fraud, but Ben Fordham says Shorten is yet to address the “monumental gap” between registered and unregistered providers.

“It’s the system that’s the problem! Not those who take advantage of it” said Ben.
