A North Sydney councillor says a motion banning leather and fur wasn’t well thought out, when it went before council.

Former Mayor and current Councillor Jilly Gibson says if taken literally, it would have effectively banned leather shoes, sporting equipment and other items at official events or on council property.

The proposal will return to council at a later date, after it was amended to seek further advice.

Councillor Gibson told Mark Levy the idea should not proceed as it was initially presented.

“This has put a spotlight on the council for all the wrong reasons.”
