EXCLUSIVE | NSW going it alone to squeeze honesty out of travel providers
Airlines and travel agents will be forced to be clearer about cancellation fees and policies in NSW under new consumer protection legislation.
While an attempt was made to take a federal approach to the issue, NSW Minister for Better Regulation Kevin Anderson told Deborah Knight the response from bureaucrats and interstate parliamentary colleagues was “not good enough”.
“There was only three ministers … on the line.
“We forged ahead from a NSW perspective … we’ll run it alone.”
The NSW government has this week taken a first pass at drafting new information standards legislation, with fines of up to $5,500 for the most serious breaches.
“Eyes glaze over when it comes to the fine print, but we’re flipping that on its head so that people are told upfront.”
