NSW Health Minister unveils plan to boost nurse numbers

NSW Minister for Health, Ryan Park, has announced the establishment of the Safe Staffing Working Group, which will plan and drive the implementation of safe staffing levels across the public hospital system.

The first task of the new Safe Staffing Working Group will be to ensure there’s one nurse for every three patients in emergency departments, which could mean 1200 additional nurses in hospitals across the state.

“We believe we can not only recruit more at the moment, but we also have enough graduates coming out of the system,” Minister Park told Ray Hadley.

“This change is important for retention and stopping the exodus out of hospitals,” he said.
