NSW Labor is demanding an explanation from the state government on the disparity in the taxi plate compensation.

Ray Hadley has reported regional areas will be divided into four tiers, with some drivers looking at as little as $25,000 for each plate.

“It is just absolutely reprehensible what this government is trying to do,” Ray said.

In a statement, NSW Labor leader Chris Minns is calling on the government to explain “how the regional compensation rates were arrived at, with four or five attracting the maximum rate of $130,000 while 88 regions are only getting $25,000.”

Full statement from Chris Minns:

“NSW Labor is concerned at the regional disparity of the proposed taxi plate compensation and will be exploring options in the parliament to address this.

“We’ve sought a briefing from the Transport Minister on the taxi compensation legislation and that will occur next Tuesday.

“It’s incumbent upon the NSW Government to explain how the regional compensation rates were arrived at, with four or five attracting the maximum rate of $130,000 while 88 regions are only getting $25,000.”
