‘One of the finest candidates to be unearthed in recent times’: Who is Dave Sharma?
This Saturday is shaping up as the biggest test yet for the new government.
The Wentworth by-election, caused by Malcolm Turnbull leaving parliament, is a must-win for Scott Morrison.
Victory would deliver a boost heading into next year’s federal election while a loss would see the coalition lose its majority in the lower house.
Those hopes rest on one man, Liberal candidate Dave Sharma.
The 42-year-old is the son of an Indian migrant, born in Vancouver before moving to Sydney in 1979.
His mother died of breast cancer when he was 12-years-old but that didn’t stop him from achieving academic excellence.
He earned the highest possible UAI (now ATAR) of 100 and attended Cambridge University before becoming Australia’s ambassador to Israel.
Alan Jones has endorsed him as “one of the finest candidates to be unearthed in recent times”.
Alan spoke with Mr Sharma ahead of Saturday’s vote, quizzing him on a range of issues facing the electorate and the nation.
