Oversized truck trapped for hours after becoming wedged on off-ramp
A major off-ramp from the M1 motorway remains blocked near Newcastle after an oversize truck became wedged.
At about 4.30am, the truck took the northbound off-ramp from the M1, onto Newcastle Link Road at Cameron Park.
It’s claimed the truck’s load, a “pressure vessel”, shifted and caused the vehicle to get wedged between the concrete barriers.
But Ray Hadley argues photos of the incident clearly show the object is too wide for the road.

Traffic heading to Newcastle is being diverted onto an earlier exit at George Booth Drive.
Motorists wanting to use the Hunter Expressway westbound can still do so.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Chief Inspector Phil Brooks tell Ray Hadley one lane of the M1 will be closed “for most of the day”.
“We’ve got a 400-tonne crane, inbound from Sydney as we speak.
“That will take its time coming up the road.”
Chief Inspector Brooks says claims the truck’s load shifted don’t stack up and that the load appears to be too wide.
“It certainly appears to be the case from these photographs.
“Throughout the course of the day, we’ll work out the fundamental reasons why this has occurred.”
