Parents expected to pay for school’s air conditioning
A school in western Sydney is being refurbished with no airconditioning, leaving it up to parents and staff to front the cash if they want to keep their kids cool.
Lidcombe Public School is set to undergo a major renovation which won’t see new classrooms installed with air conditioning, despite the current rooms already having the units.
It’s reported the NSW Government has set aside significant funding to go towards air conditioning in schools, surpassing the $300-million pledge by Labor.
Despite this, the government is refusing to pay for air conditioning at the Lidcombe school.
NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley says it’s evidence the government has no plan to keep students cool in summer.
“You can bet your bottom dollar that the corporate suites in the new stadiums that government’s building will come with air conditioning.
“If government’s prepared to spend billions on these new stadiums, why are we not prepared to fork out a fraction of that sum to air condition classrooms?”
