Parents of murdered teen speak out ahead of killer’s expected release
The parents of a murdered teen have spoken out ahead of their daughter’s killer’s expected release.
15-year-old Tania Burgess was brutally stabbed 48 times while walking home from school in 2005.
Known only as ‘DL’ for legal reasons, the killer was sentenced on appeal to a maximum sentence of 18 years.
‘DL’ has been eligible for parole since 2018 but it has never been granted.
Ben Fordham Live understands it’s likely parole will be granted ahead.
Tania’s mother Mandy Burgess says she hopes his release will mean her daughter’s killer can be monitored in the community.
If he is released at the end of his sentence in July next year, he will essentially be a free man.
“It’s hard to think Tania’s killer will be out there and could put another family through what we have been through,” she said.
