A new playground in Leichhardt has caused some mixed feedback from parents after a cause of concern for the children’s safety.
Complaints about logs, rope, bucket towers, concrete and sandstone blocks caused an uproar within the community as a social media post suggested the kids ‘should wear a helmet’.
The park has been designed to not look finished whilst encouraging kids to ‘take risks’.
Designer of Pioneers Memorial Park playground Mike Hewson has defended the construction telling Deborah Knight “It’s not even that extreme”.
“Maybe it’s just the appearance that kind of.. is jarring.”
Despite the disagreements from parents, Mr Hewson said the playgrounds are: “designed to meet the developmental needs of children”.
