An elderly woman has died after being hit by a cement truck in Crows Nest.

A couple in their 80s were crossing the road while holding hands when they were struck on the corner of Willoughby Road and Albany Street.

The woman couldn’t be saved after she was dragged under the truck and trapped underneath.

Her 82-year-old husband was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with minor injuries.

The truck driver is being treated for shock and will undergo mandatory testing.
