Penalty overhaul urgently needed, claims Heavy Vehicle Regulator Chair
In an interview with Ray Hadley, Duncan Gay, chair of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, has shed light on the persisting problems in the industry, from ineffective penalties to the urgent need for driver training.
The two acknowledged, “The four thousand dollars and twelve points hasn’t made any difference,” and argued for stronger punitive actions.
Mr Gay pointed out the urgent need to enhance driver training, particularly for inexperienced drivers. He also suggested the necessity for a unified licensing system and an effective communication mechanism for drivers.
