Penrith Panthers legend Royce Simmons reveals Alzheimer’s diagnosis
Penrith Panthers legend Royce Simmons has confirmed today that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and he plans to embark on a 300km charity walk in May.
Many head knocks and concussions from the game of Rugby League may have contributed to the diagnosis but that is still not confirmed.
Penrith Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher told Mark Levy, “it was a big shock to all the staff and everybody”.
“All he wants to do is just raise money for research.”
“He’s hearts in the right place and he’ll do a marvellous job.”
The walk will be from Royce’s hometown of Gooloogong to Penrith over a 10 day period, beginning on May 17th with hopes to raise funds for Dementia Australia.
