Penrith police radio operators demand sit-down with incoming Commissioner
The police radio room in Penrith will be merged with Surry Hills’ next month, with staff told about the move by email.
NSW Police have told Ray Hadley the consolidation is required to make way for more police in the Nepean Area Command.
Public Service Association General Secretary Stewart Little has spoken out against the move of civilian employees and some police, telling Ray the radio operators are highly skilled and play a critical role.
“I know Penrith won the comp, but I don’t think they’re doing that well where they can cut 70 high-paid frontline jobs out of the community.
“It’s a stupid decision, and I don’t think there is any operational justification.”
With the announcement of the next Police Commissioner imminent, Mr Little called for a discussion with the newcomer.
“We would certainly love to get round the table with whoever that is and have a long nag, and I’m sure the Police Association would as well.”
