Pensioners could be punished for using Uber or Airbnb
Centrelink warns profits from share-economies will affect people’s Centrelink payments.
Those driving for Uber or renting properties through Airbnb will have to follow strict guidelines and could have their benefits cut.
General Manager of the Department of Human Services Hank Jongen warns there are some important things to keep in mind if you profit from the industry.
“If you’re going to do it, understand there are rules around it.
“If you’re an Uber driver, you’re regarded as a contractor, you’re not an employee.
“It would affect all of our payments.
“We don’t want to discourage people from doing this of course, but the reality is, there are implications.”
