‘People are getting the message’: NSW road toll down despite 354 deaths
Fewer lives were lost on New South Wales roads in 2018, marking the biggest reduction in five years.
354 people were killed, 35 fewer fatalities than in 2017.
Speed-related crashes and fatalities from heavy truck crashes were also down.
“Last year it was carnage,” says Luke Grant.
“The idea that perhaps the message has got through… has got to be encouraging.”
Assistant Police Commissioner Michael Corboy tells Luke Grant it’s a “good result”.
“This year we concentrated on making sure that the message really got out that we were going to be everywhere at any time on any road.
“People are getting the message.”
