Peter Alexander: From ‘idiot’ child to turning over $200m a year
Peter Alexander is known as Australia’s pyjama king and has since gone on to world dominance as well.
30 years ago he noticed women’s bedwear was one of two things; virginal or femme fatal.
So, he tells Alan Jones, he decided to fill the gap in the market.
“It was really just an idea that sparked in my head, and I’d had plenty of stupid ideas before.
“I just sort of went for it, I asked my dad for a $3,000 loan about 30 years ago.
“I still don’t know how to sew, I still get my mother to sew buttons on my shirts.
Peter tells Alan he was never handed success, but had to reach out and grab it for himself.
“I really struggled at school, I had a learning disability and I was told through my whole childhood I’m an idiot and I’m not going to do anything good.
And now?
“We sell roughly about $200 million a year, we’ve got over a hundred stores and it is just mind-boggling.”
To celebrate Mother’s Day, Alan is giving about six $250 Peter Alexander vouchers every single day.
