ARL Commission Chairman Peter V’landys has revealed how the NRL selected the four NRL clubs to open the season in Las Vegas next year in a spectacular event.

On Friday, it was announced the Brisbane Broncos, Manly Sea Eagles, Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs will be travelling abroad and playing in a double-header on Sunday March 3 (AEST).

While each NRL team will have the chance to go to the US over a five-year period, V’landys told The Continuous Call Team he believed the four chosen clubs were the best fit for next year.

“Look, 10 sides put their hand over and what we’ve done is said it’s going to be over five years so every team will go,” V’landys said.

“So this year we looked at what teams could bring to the table, how can they market the game, (and) how many will travel from their clubs.

“Management’s set a number of criteria’s and basically judged each proposal on those criteria’s and these were the four teams that management recommended.”

The NRL and Rugby League Players Association also put pen to paper on an in-principle agreement on an historic collective bargaining agreement and V’landys says the issues were resolved without much difficulty this week.

“They weren’t difficult at all because both parties went into that room with very good spirit and both parties were determined to find a resolution,” he said.
