‘Place of the Eels’ unveiled in ‘impeccable’ timing ahead of Grand Final
An artwork in honour of the Parramatta Eels has been unveiled in the city’s CBD.
The ‘Place of the Eels’, an aluminium vintage bus, was inspired by the Parramatta Eels’ premiership success in the 1980s.
The artwork is a replica of the 1960s Leyland Worldmaster bus that Eels coach Jack Gibson bought his rugby league team in 1981.
Parramatta Lord Mayor Donna Davis told Ray Hadley the statue has been in the works for two years.
“Ironically, we’ve had to change the date of the launch because of different things that have happened … so for it to now happen on the eve of the weekend of the Grand Final is just wonderful.”
