Plans for a high-speed rail line: ‘This is our opportunity to get that right’
New South Wales voters are putting a high-speed rail line at the top of their transport wish-list according to a new Reachtel poll.
The recent survey has revealed a fast rail link from Sydney to Newcastle is the top transport priority for more than one-third of NSW voters.
CEO of Consolidated Land and Rail Australia Nick Cleary tells Deborah Knight “right now the people of NSW are saying this is absolutely essential to rebalancing our settlements”.
Mr Cleary, who is involved in pitching a fast-rail business plan to the government, says the building of a high-speed rail line “can ease congestion, affordability, overcrowding”.
“Decentralisation has failed to an extent in the past because we’ve failed to give proximity to people who chose to live outside of the capital cities.
“This is our opportunity to get that right.”
