$900K bureaucrat suspended after Robodebt scandal
Luke is joined by Rex Patrick, former Independent Senator for South Australia and now transparency warrior, who has been at the front of the queue of those calling for former Human Services Department head Kathryn CampbelI to stand down.
We heard early yesterday that Ms Campbell had been stood down without pay from her nearly $900K role advising on Aukus.
Campbell was the head of the Department of Human Services during Robodebt’s inception in 2014 and the Robodebt royal commission found she “did nothing of substance” when exposed to information about the illegality of the scheme.
The Labor government moved her to a senior AUKUS role after the election which needs to be explained by the government.
PM Anthony Albanese confirmed yesterday that Ms Campbell had been suspended from that role without pay, saying that “failings with bureaucracy” and “human tragedy” caused by the scheme meant action had to be taken… even though his government promoted her…
