Aussie taxpayers are missing out on potential unclaimed deductions

Clinton Maynard

With tax return season fast approaching, new research reveals that, while the majority (93%) of Australian taxpayers still collect physical receipts to claim back expenses, lost or damaged receipts may be causing Australians to miss out on a potential $7 billion in unclaimed deductions. In fact, this could amount to $341 on average for each taxpayer.

The research, by Intuit QuickBooks, finds over half of Australian taxpayers (59%) admit to having lost receipts, while 47% promised themselves they would store receipts better this year, but haven’t done so.

Clinton is joined by Damien Greathead, Accounting and Advisor Group Lead at Intuit QuickBooks, to discuss how Aussies are mismanaging their receipts and share advice on how to make tax time less stressful by using tech to their advantage.
